Brief
History
One of the 11 co-founders of
the Assyrian Athletic Club in Baghdad (Nadi Al-Athori Al-Riyathi) in March
11, 1955.
He served as a committee member for 12 years in the club in addition to
being a president from 1980-1990 before moving to Canada.
Represented Iraq in Two Asian
Tournaments as a Volleyball player, 1950 in Lebanon and 1955 in Tunisia.
Served as a representative of the Assyrian Athletic Club of Baghdad to the
Iraqi Olympic Committee.
In Canada he, he served as a Vice-President at the Assyrian Society of
Canada (1995-1998).
He was honored at the Assyrian American National Convention in 2000 for his
years of dedicated service.
Youel Serkis was an experienced bank manager from his years in Iraq before
moving his family
to Canada and joining UNACTO in 1996-1997 as a volunteer. Later he was
elected to several positions including a Vice-President.
He was honored in 2000 by the Assyrian Athletic Club and named as an
honorary life-time member of the club.
