With the Assyrian
National Convention only a few months away, the Assyrian Athletic Club of
Toronto has added a new team to its family: The Winged Bull Basketball
Team.
Within the last three months, we have found a vast number of young Assyrians
within our community who are passionate about the game of basketball,
ranging between the ages of 15 to 25. Our immediate goal is to put a solid
team together to represent the Assyrian community in Toronto among other
communities and ultimately, represent Canada
at this year Assyrian National Convention in Detroit, Michigan.
We look forward to playing against Assyrians from California, Detroit,
and Chicago, as the game of basketball has become a popular sport among the
Assyrian Community in the USA and we hope to follow the soccer team’s
footsteps by bringing another championship trophy to Toronto.
However, our goals go beyond the convention. Our ultimate goal is to
establish a house-league within our community to give our players an
opportunity to showcase their talents, learn the game, and most importantly,
build friendships with one another. Basketball has become a popular sport
in Canada ever since the NBA introduced the Toronto Raptors, and it is
obvious that the popularity has helped our community produce some talented
players.
With that being
said, we would like to take this opportunity to announce the first 9 members
