Brief
History
Anwar
Khoshaba was one of the founders of the football team ‘Blue Birds – Alteyor
Alzarqa’ (late 1950s).
The
team competed with other teams in the Arapha area (new Kirkuk).
The
Blue Birds team members included Youkhana Shlimon (Nano), Nori Hacoub, Ando
Akajan,
Eshaya
Shmouel, Shlimon Shmouel and Pityo Orahim.
The new
Kirkuk team encouraged other youth to form their own teams which were later
called Shabab Arapha, Da’owalqamar, Alta’aleb and many more.
Anwar
Khoshaba left Bet Nahrain (Iraq) and moved to Australia in the late 1960s
with his family. He was able to represent our community as he was later
elected as the Fairfield City Counselor. After this he successfully achieved
the position as Mayor of Fairfield City.
We are
proud to see one of our fellow sportsmen from Kirkuk achieving such a high
position in the community of Australia. He represented Australian people
from Fairfield City alongside our Assyrian community.
Never
the less it is worth to mention that Anwar Khoshaba’s son Ninos Khoshaba was
also elected state member of parliament of N.S.W. representing the prospect
area.
